2018 calendar: Building a better—and safer—Oregon
From high school students in Forest Grove to high-wire utility workers in La Grande, meet the Oregonians who are answering construction’s call.
Pardon our dust. But in case you hadn't noticed, Oregon has been experiencing another building boom.
From high-rise apartments in Portland to data centers in the desert, construction has returned to levels not seen since before the 2008 recession. And with the state predicted to add nearly 170,000 residents by 2020, the dust may not settle anytime soon.
Nearly 100,000 Oregonians worked in construction in 2017, an increase of roughly 40 percent from the depths of the recession. And many jobs are going unfilled, as community colleges and trade unions scramble to meet the demand for highly skilled carpenters, plumbers, and electricians.
In our 2018 calendar (PDF), we salute the men and women who are answering the call—from high school students in Forest Grove to high-wire utility workers in La Grande.
Together, we can build a better—and safer—Oregon.
