Don’t forget to file claims on time
Filing claims on time is good for the worker—and good for business.
Employers should file a workers' comp claim as soon as possible after the injury, and within five days to meet the legal requirement.
After a workplace injury, you’re likely to have many concerns — the injured employee, making sure their responsibilities are covered in their absence, and looking out for any more exposures.
While the last thing on your list may be filing a claim, it's an important step in ensuring you and your worker both get the assistance you need.
To file a claim, submit an 801 form as quickly as possible. Here are just some of the benefits:
- We can deliver benefits promptly and accurately, including time-loss payments. This could prevent an injured worker from worrying about where their next paycheck is coming from.
- The sooner the claim is reported, the sooner SAIF can advise the worker and you, the employer, of the claim process. The adjuster can explain all the benefits and timeframes, which reduces the worker’s stress.
- Filing quickly means the information about the injury is fresh and details are clearer. Detailed information helps SAIF determine what compensation and benefits the worker is entitled to.
- Filing quickly avoids the risk of a penalty.
- Claims that are reported on time are less likely to result in litigation or prolonged time loss.
To file a claim, fill out the 801 form (available in both English and Spanish). You can submit the form through Business Online, email it to saif801@saif.com, or fax it to 800.475.7785. Learn more about reporting a workplace injury on saif.com.
