SAIF Corporation's Board of Directors today named Kerry Barnett as the workers' compensation insurer's new president and CEO.Barnett has worked for Cambia Health Solutions, formerly The Regence Group, since 2004, most recently as executive vice president and chief legal officer. He previously held executive positions with ODS Health Plans and HealthFirst Medical Group. From 1993 to 1997, he was director of the Oregon Department of Consumer Business Services, a position that also serves as the state's insurance commissioner."Kerry Barnett is uniquely qualified to serve as SAIF's next president and CEO, and we are absolutely delighted that he has accepted the position," said Jenny Ulum, SAIF board chair. "We recognize how fortunate we are that he has chosen to bring his extensive knowledge, experience and skills to bear on behalf of all SAIF's stakeholders-the employers and workers we serve, our employees, and the people of the state of Oregon. With great enthusiasm, we welcome him and look forward to his leadership."Barnett will begin work on May 22, succeeding Interim President and CEO John Gilkey, who is retiring.Barnett lives in Portland with his wife, Mia. They have two children-one in high school and one in college. He has an undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester in New York, and a law degree from Yale Law School. His earlier work experience includes practicing with the law firm Lindsay, Hart, Neil & Weigler from 1987 to 1989 and serving as legal counsel and senior policy adviser to Gov. Barbara Roberts from 1990 to 1993.Ulum noted that Barnett possessed unmatched credentials in terms of his experience with and knowledge of Oregon, the insurance industry, regulatory and political environments, and public and private sectors.
