“From farm to pint for five generations” is not just a charming marketing slogan for Lakeside Ranches, the next generation farming at Sodbuster Farms. It’s a concept that permeates day-to-day life for Erica Lorentz, who owns the north Salem hop farm with her husband, Jake.
Hop farming is challenging, physical work, but Erica and Jake have sought to create safer conditions for their employees. This can be seen in their installation of two new picking machines, which streamlined the process and significantly reduced hazards.
