Wild Pear
For Cecilia Ritter, one of the most difficult aspects of COVID was uncertainty about the future.
Cecilia Ritter, owner of the Wild Pear restaurant in downtown Salem, sometimes wears a chef’s jacket bearing her late sister’s name, Jessica. Jessica opened the restaurant and catering service with her, and recently died of cancer. Her portrait hangs in the front window.
For Cecilia, one of the most difficult aspects of COVID was uncertainty about the future.
“I was leading our company through the unknown without a point of reference,” she says. “I had to lean on survival instincts and the loyalty of staff and patrons to trust us in the process.”
As life with COVID becomes clearer, Cecilia looks forward to the restaurant’s daily rhythm. “I love knowing that people come to us for the feeding of their body and spirit,” she says.
“It’s a great blessing that invokes our daily purpose.”
