2018 calendar: Oregon Trail Electric
Meet the SAIF policyholders who are helping to build a better—and safer—Oregon.
Oregon Trail Electric | Baker City
A penny apiece. That's how much 700 eastern Oregon citizens pitched in to start their own elecric cooperative back in 1987 when the previous provider left town for lack of profits.
Today, Oregon Trail Electric Cooperative services 31,000 meters in Baker, Grant, Harney, and Union counties, making it one of the largest consumer-owned utilities in the state. Over the past 30 years, the co-op has upgraded the local grid to the tune of $153 million. It also helps power the local economy by providing youth scholarships, community leadership awards, and rebates for energy efficient upgrades.
And to think, it all started with seven bucks (and a $33,000 loan). Not a bad return on investment.
