Domestic partner information

SAIF provides benefits to domestic partners and their eligible dependents. Each plan has its own definition of a domestic partner relationship.

When enrolling a domestic partner and/or their eligible dependents, you may be subject to the imputed tax value rates for medical and dental-vision benefits. The imputed tax value of your domestic partner’s insurance coverage is included as part of your gross income and is reported in accordance with state and federal law.

There are separate rules, for tax purposes, that may affect a domestic partner who may qualify as your tax dependent. If this is the case, you must complete the Domestic Partner Certification for Dependent Tax Status form. If a domestic partner and eligible dependents qualify as tax dependents, you may not be subject to the imputed tax liability.

You are encouraged to speak with your tax professional to determine whether your domestic partner is a tax dependent.
